BeAnalogic.com promotes and spreads the idea of analog photography, that is why we want to learn more about our users! “Outside Fridge” is a section of our website, where we interview our users. Why “Outside Fridge”? Often, analog photographers save their films in the fridge, to maintain the quality of celluloid. Once put, you can “relax and chat” with us. Today we interview Marta Mengardo.
Sebastiano: Who is Marta Mengardo?
Marta: Marta is an italian 21 years old design student. She is inquiring, sensitive and nature’s lover.
Sebastiano: When did your passion for photography?
Marta: I remember that the first time I left home intentionally with a camera was in 2012. I wanted to shoot an abandoned chalet near a little lake. Since that day my passion for photography has grown more and more.
Sebastiano: Do you remember when you took your first film roll pack?
Marta: Initially I shooted with digital cameras, only in 2015 I started experimenting with films, my first one was an expired film given by my grandmother, an Agfa Vista 200.
Sebastiano: What do you like about film photography or photography in general?
Marta: I like to capture the moment by creating images that spread emotions in those who look at them. And I believe that analog photography with its imperfection is better in this purpose.
Sebastiano: What kind of photography usually you shot and what kind of film cameras did you use?
Marta: My works focus mainly on female portrait, in particular in natural landscapes, sometimes with a dreamlike look. I usually use a Canon Ae1, it was love at first shot.
Sebastiano: What are the characteristics that distinguish you as a photographer?
Marta: This is a really hard question! I think that my works can be recognised by the fact that I can melt situations of real daily life with images built specifically for the shooting, thus creating situations of ambiguity.
Sebastiano: I see on website that you shoot people and places. Can you talk about your works?
Marta: I take pictures of people because I think there is nothing more expressive, but I often put them in natural environments because I love the fusion of human with nature.
Sebastiano: Who are the photographers that influenced your work?
Marta: I think the photographers that most influence my work are the ones I see every day on the internet or Instagram, both professions and amateurs. But I also admire many more important photographers, like Ren Hang, Nan Goldin, Rineke Dijkstra, Diane Arbus and many others.
Sebastiano: What is the future of film photography?
Marta: I think film photography is going through a period of rebirth, people are realizing the charm that this expressive means has.
Sebastiano: Your plans for future?
Marta: To shoot more and more and to create a complete photographic project that can express best my perception of what is around me.
